TOURIST VILLAGE, MALINSKA

2005 PROJECT

Coastal development has recently become central issue of the public debate, concerned with the identity and its scale, with public becoming increasingly aware of the limits this space has. New sensibility for the environmental and cultural qualities and authenticity of the territory is making architectural quality even more important for the success of a tourist resort.
One can not of course litterary apply historical models on a different typology, but in Croatian case one can find several succesfull examples of tourist resorts that have been generated on typological and morphological characteristics of traditional coastal structures, like Andro Čičin-Šain Vila Rubin in Rovinj, Igor Emili's Uvala Scott or nearby Ribarsko selo in Haludovo by Boris Magaš and Darko Turato.

The same aprroach was implemented on Tourist resort Malinska. Apartments are not parts of a large block, but are instead treated as individual units of an urban structure.

Complex has a form of an «village», with apartment units organized in a series of houses developed from the traditional form, irregulary positioned on the terrain. Pattern is following the logic of the traditional architect-less urban structures. Buildings are grouped in larger cluster-like structures. Irregularity of the patterns is creating in the in-between spaces alleys and wider attraction points.

Structure is transparent in the north(sea)-south direction, with a series of pathways and larger open areas going from the animation park near the entrance, swimming pool area in the center and ending at the beach area with large terrace in the north.

Grouping of this structure is done according to the location permit, that asks for four separate structures on the site: three are clusters with the apartments and the fourth one is the hotel.

Hotel is positioned along the eastern border of the site. The biggest structure in the complex, Hotel is developed in an irregular linear form with roof divided in different continuous sections related to the scale of the apartment buildings.
