HOUSE BOŠNJAK , MATULJI
1993 REALIZATION |
||||||
The view on Kvarner Bay, seen from a rather steep sloped site, was enough to convince the client that it was an ideal place to build a home for his family. The view was to become the driving force behind the design. Although the lot is relatively large for the area (2000m2), there were constraints. It is long and narrow, primarily wooded and contained an area that was not designated for building. The building had to be situated in the lower part of the site where the view was impeded by surrounding buildings. Therefore, the house was designed in the vertical dimension, with the most 'public' areas on the higher floors. The house consists of two volumes that are positioned in the steep terrain. The higher volume has "turned-up" roof decks covered by Mediterranean tiles and the lower volume is covered by wooden plates. The lower volume has a swimming pool and sunbathing deck. At the joint of the two volumes, spiral staircases connect the three levels of the house. Due to the spectacular view, the main living space, swimming pool with its sunbathing deck and the terrace are designed on the upper level and on the roof. The entrance level contains the garage, entry hall, children and guest-rooms. The main bedroom and working space are the only spaces that have immediate contact with the garden.
