The new owner of the 'begun construction' (terminology from real estate business, meaning a building lot which contains construction in brick that are usually in bad shape and that were constructed without a valid building permit.) wanted to build a single-family house which included a small office space. Whereas demolition of the existing building was not possible, the new program had to be incorporated into the existing volume of the 'begun construction'. The existing volume was kept as the core of the house. The addition of new volumes in the south as well as a roof set-back, created new terraces on the each floor. The underside of the saddleback roof, which is visible, is copper. The roof is covered by Mediterranean tiles. The ground floor and first floor are occupied by office space and a guest apartment. The second and attic floors are used as apartments for the family. The interior space is open to the garden that is isolated from the neighbours by buttress walls and pergolas. It is interesting that upon completion, the building had another programmatic transformation. The whole building became office space and the only housing component that remained was an apartment (on the ground floor) for the firm's guests.
