The plan for Almere's urban center proposed a series of terraced residential buildings. This typology was seen as most appropriate for creation of an urban setting which demanded an increased density and that, at the same time, offers the individuality of the single-family housing. The proposed type is an oval skeleton that can be filled-in by sections. These sections contain various programmes pieces, ranging from housing to office components. They can be built separately, allowing for individual expression of each unit. With the presumed mobility of the inhabitants, the building would have a constantly changing appearance. Each unit has its own entrance from the outdoor staircase that climbs the roof and crosses to its opposite elevation.
